Centerless Grinding

centerless grindingCenterless grinding is an OD grinding process that uses abrasive cutting to remove material from a workpiece. Centerless grinding differs from centered grinding operations in that the workpiece is not mechanically restrained, but is secured by a work rest blade located between a high speed grinding wheel and a slower speed regulating wheel with a smaller diameter.

This process will achieve roundness, surface finish and dimensional tolerances that are among the best available. Moreover, the process is able to improve the roundness of out-of-round workpiece blanks.

Types of parts we have centerless ground include pins, planetary pins, king pins, chuck pins, bushings, rods, bar stock, drive shafts and slides.

Our staff is experienced in centerless bar processing to match any variance or specification you need. Centerless grinding is used on many types of workpieces. The key components are the grinding wheel, the work rest blade used to support the work and the regulating or “feed” wheel.
